Alvin Tijitrowirjo has been a renowned designer for almost ten years now. Loyal to his roots, he helps preserve local heritage in his home village and uses materials in his work that reflect his love for Indonesian tradition.
A graduate of RMIT University in Australia, Alvin has always been passionate about art and design. His ‘Bell Chair,’ was exhibited in the Salone Satelitte in Milan in 2005. Upon his return to Indonesia in 2006, Alvin established his furniture brand, alvinT, and his design practice, Shape of Thoughts which focuses on branding, product design, interior design and art direction in the commercial sector. Alvin obtained his Masters in Product Design at the IED (Isituto Europeo di Design) in Madrid and then worked with the renowned international designer Marcel Wanders in Amsterdam. This path continued with Alvin designing a chair, launched by MOOOI in Milan in 2014. In 2016, as part of the Alamak project, Alvin exhibited his furniture among several other Asian Designers at the Design Museum Triennale Milan.
In 2017, Alvin became the artistic director of the Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy at Milan Design Week and at Ambiente in Frankfurt. Since 2018, Alvin has become the artistic director of the Indonesian furniture brand Vivere. In recent years, his work has been exhibited at Milan Design Week, Maison et Objet Paris, Stockholm Furniture Fair, Tokyo DesignArt, and New York Design Week.
